wasn't as weak as expected in April, but it wasn't strong by any
means. The data released by the Labor Department on Friday continues
to show any economy near or in recession, with more jobs destroyed
than created for a fourth straight month. Nonfarm payrolls fell by
20,000 in April after job losses averaging 80,000 in the printed playing cards quarter
of the year. See full story. Economists were looking for a loss of
78,000. See Economic Calendar. independent style motorcycle insurance of the unique nature of
this downturn, the job market hasn't collapsed as it typically does
during emo fashion emo clothing economy has chinese lessons chicago faces: Most industries dealing
with the manufacture, shipping or sales of tangible goods or real
estate are weak, although the boom in exports is keeping the factory
sector from shedding as many jobs as it typically does. On the other
hand, most industries dealing with providing services, such as
health-care, education, professional services and accommodations, are
doing better. Rather than lay off workers who may be needed soon if
the economy turns around, firms are cutting back streetwear clothes sharply. Total
hours worked in the economy sank by 0.4% in April and are down 0.6%
since December. Average hourly wages barely grew during the month,
rising just 1 cent. Average hourly earnings are up 3.4% in the past
year, not even keeping up with inflation. The separate survey of
households painted a picture of a stronger job market in April. In
that survey, employment rose imprinted playing cards 362,000 after falling by 221,000 over
the first quarter. Those gains pushed the unemployment rate back down
to 5%. The household survey is less reliable than the survey of
business establishments, but it may be telling us that someone is
still creating jobs out there. Unfortunately, almost all those jobs,
on net, were part-time jobs, not the full-time jobs those workers were
seeking. The number of people working part-time because they can't
find full-time work rose by 306,000 to 5.2 million, up by 849,000 in
the past year. --Rex Nutting, Washington bureau chief End of Story
